Snow Stays Away From Canada’s Slopes
Canada’s previous good snow was not evident this year after and very poor conditions left some people calling it the worst season in 10 years. People taking holidays in Canada this year got something of let down.
Canada is world renowned for provided plentiful snowfall and top class conditions for those seeking the white rush.Hoards of people head to the Rockies every year in search of their snow fix and the resort of Whistler is practically a house hold name. This season just gone however did not delivery the magic that everyone expected.
A freak -30 degrees high pressure period just before the Christmas period left the slopes wanting and the usual low pressure snow drop never really materialised. There were small flurries happening now and again of around 4cm but not enough to stick and certainly not enough to ride on comfortably. One man interviewed as he left a resort states “it’s been borderline terrible”. He had managed to make it out to Castle the previous week but found that when he arrived the slopes were exposed with zero cover.“I maybe got 4 days of riding out of 14, that’s not good”. Another visitor said that she decided to ditch the skiing in favour of doing some sightseeing on one of the local company’s polar bear holidays.
The unreliable temperatures and pressures that caused the lack of snow have been blamed by many of the effects of global warming. A counter argument to this is the great conditions that Europe and most of America have had at their ski resorts, some of the best for years in fact. Many people think it is simply an unfortunate year and hope next season will bring better luck
