People who have never traveled abroad can sometimes get caught off guard and not know that they are supposed to have a passport for their destination. Traveling to places like Mexico never required real documentation until recently. Even if someone finds out at the last minute that they are going to need a passport, they can use expedited new United States passport services to save the day.

The first thing to understand is that the process for a new passport application form applications  is very involved. The second anyone finds himself or herself in a situation that warrants an expedited new passport, they should do everything in their power to get that passport application in a soon as possible. The sooner the process is started, the sooner the new passport can be issued.

New passport applications must be done in person at an official application center. These centers are often in a United States Post Office. First and foremost, the applicant is going to need a picture that can be used on the passport. While some passport locations offer this service, it may be a bit cheaper to use a local one-hour photo shop. Just let them know the purpose of the photo and they will crop it properly.

First time applicants must apply in person and therefore the postal employee should be able to assist in the expiditing process. After filling out the DS-82 form, the applicant should inform the postal employee about the need for rush service. Typically, the word “Expedite” should be clearly marked on the outside of the envelope.

In addition to the regular fees for a passport, expedited service will run an extra $60. For the additional fee, the applicant will get their passport back in about three week’s time. If it is approaching a heavy travel time, it may take a bit longer. This is why people are sometimes better off using the expedited service to guarantee that the passport will make it back to them in time for their trip.

While it is obviously recommended that the passport be obtained much earlier, it is not always possible. There could be an emergency that requires immediate travel that had not otherwise been planned. When this happens, there is no choice but to use one of the many expedited services that are offered to make sure that the passport is in hand when the time comes around to board the plane.

Filing the U.S. passport application form for the first time can be a stressful situation, especially if time is of the essence. Instead of panicking, know that there are expedited new US passport services that can be used to make sure that the passport is in hand when it is needed. Regardless of how soon the passport is required, there is a service (although it will cost a higher amount) that can be paid for to get the passport in your hands by the desired date.
