The Juice Bar is the most awesome ice cream store on Nantucket, hands down. They make their own creamy and delicious ice cream like Peanut Butter Cup and Toffee Crunch.

They also make their own waffle cones, not to mention terrific freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, and frappes. Maybe let the kids have these giant desserts for dinner one night. Sometimes the line is long, but it’s worth the wait.

3. Maria Mitchell Aquarium

The kids will love this place. Even though it’s tiny, it is chock full of information and live examples of the local fish population. Checking out the touch tank is always the best part for kids. There are examples of sea life like clams and scallops in the touch tank.

Adults and kids can take specimens out for a zoomed in look. The scaled down aquarium is a great place to visit if you’re pressed for time.

4. MMO Marine Ecology Expedition

Everyone in the family can enjoy a Maria Mitchell Ecology Expedition. Both kids and parents will be interested in a marine ecology outing. They take you to a waterfront locale and Maria Mitchell staff members head into the water with seine nets to collect some specimens of fish and crabs.

Once they lay their catch out on the sand, everyone can participate in sorting the fish into buckets. It’s a lot of fun and very interesting. 5. The Whaling Museum

6. Jetties Beach

Lifeguards and no undertow make Jetties a perfect spot for families. Nets and buckets are a must for low tide when you can wade out in shallow water to gather silver sides and hermit crabs. Since crabs like to nip toes, it’s not a bad idea to wear water shoes.

The pretend pirate ship in the playground is always popular with the littlest of pirates. The bar opens at 5PM.
