Escape The Winter In Lanzarote
There is one small part of the European Union where the impact of winter never really makes itself felt. No snow, no freezing weather and none of the problems that go with it. Instead the sun continues to shine all year round.
In fairness though the Canary Islands are as far as south as you can go and still be within the confines of the European Union. As these seven islands have been ruled by Spain since the 15th century – even if they are in fact located much closer to Africa,
Either way the Canaries are a wildly popular winter sun destination – as well as a hot choice during the summer months too. Thanks to this great climate, wonderful beaches and plenty of good value accommodation options. Which makes a winter break on one of the islands such as Lanzarote affordable for most.
Unlike more exotic winter sun destinations the Canaries are also close to home too. At just four hours flying time from all major UK airports. And now that low cost carriers such as Ryanair have started flying there it is possible to build your own budget break with ease.
Accommodation in Lanzaorte is also much cheaper than in many other Spanish holiday destinations. In part thanks to the fact that the season runs here all year round. As a result Lanzarote holiday villas with private pools can be rented out from as little as £350 per week. Whilst holiday apartments in Lanzarote are available from just £180 per week. Price that aren’t going to be matched in the Caribbean or many other places for that matter.
Worried about the island´s downmarket reputation? You shouldn’t be as the Lanza-grotty tag is very much a thing of the past and you won’t find roaming packs of lager louts here. Indeed Lanzarote is widely regarded as a much more upmarket destination than the close Canarian cousins of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Boasting plenty of cool places to dine and party. A well as a rich cultural heritage.
This is best epitomised in the work of a local artist called Cesar Manrique. Who once was at the vanguard of the Spanish surrealist movement before going on to help preserve Lanzarote from over development.
Manrique was an artist and basically viewed Lanzarote – his birthplace – as his canvas. Creating unique visitor attractions for tourists to enjoy that work in careful harmony with the islands twisted volcanic terrain.
