About The Canary Islands

Canary Islands Geographic Map

Canary Islands Maps

The Canaries comprise of a group of seven main islands spread across approximately 400km from El Hierro furthest in the east to La Gomera, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and finally Lanzarote in the west. Along with a further six islets, the Islands form an archipelago that is located over a thousand km from southern Spain and only slightly in excess of 100 km west of the coastline  of the north African country of  Morocco. The total area of the islands is about 3256 square miles

The six main Canary Islands have become a haven for sun seekers from all over Europe and beyond mainly due to the sunny year round climate, fantastic beaches and spectacular and diverse scenery and, when you consider the Canaries are only approximately four hours flight from the UK it is no surprise that many visitors return time after time.

The Canary Islands climate could be likened to that of a sub tropical paradise, although if you take the opportunity to explore the Islands (if you are fortunate enough to visit them all) you’ll soon discover that a single journey can expose you to a variety of climate changes that is altogether quite staggering.

On Canary Islands Holidays you could go from the spring like temperate climate in the north of the canary islands, and then high up in to the mountains, some in excess of 12000 ft where, you could find yourself enshrouded by the clouds (and sometimes snow), and yet less than an hours further drive you could journeying through the middle of a volcanic waste land that’s more reminiscent of the prehistoric days whilst a little further still, you could be tanning yourself on a sandy beach or basking by the pool all in the same day!

You'll never be short of something to do in on your vacation as the canary islands are perfect for every activity imaginable - from snorkelling and scuba diving, surfing, wind surfing and sailing, to Jeep safaris, hang-gliding, tennis and mountain biking - any time of year.

Whilst on Canary Islands Holidays don’t miss out on an opportunity to look at the cultural side of the islands especially the work of the world famous Cesar Manrique. It is impossible to imagine for example Lanzarote as it stands today without César Manrique. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, ecologist, monument preserver as well as a construction advisor, planner of urban developments and outliner of landscapes and gardens.

Cesar Manrique has left the Canary Islands a legacy of outstanding landscape works, many of which blend harmoniously with the very fabric of the natural canarian architecture.
